Day 10 Gathering of the Waters

Capitol Building, Madison WI

Wisconsin is the Native American name for Gathering of the Waters. It is truly a land of many lakes, rivers and wet lands. In our brief stay in Madison (named for the President) we took a very informative tour of the impressive capitol building. We learned all about badgers which are  included in many murals and represented in sculptures in bronze and stone.

Bicycle Crossing on the UW Campus

On our walk around the UW campus we stopped at the Dairy building expecting to see the latest in milking cows but instead found an ice creamery. Delicious. This campus was the site where the first instrument to measure butterfat was invented and the first short course in dairy farming was given. These two things revolutionized milk and standardized the dairy industry. Lucky us!

Madison was hosting the Annual International Dairy Expo. We heard a lot of Russian and other languages in our hotel. The event draws more than 14,000 people from all over the world. It showcases the latest in feed and dairy technology. We heard that people go there to buy and bring home semen from the best cows.
Midway Field, Chicago

Our flight to Chicago had tailwinds all the way. It was a little bumpy but we made it in only 33 minutes.
