| Trump Tower with Chicago River |
Yesterday we were kindly picked up at the airport by Marni and Mathew, nephew and niece-to-be. They gave us the short tour through the city and dropped us off at Ellen & Chuck's apartment.
Today Ellen (niece) & I began the day with a vigorous walk around the Lake. Steve & Chuck(niece's significant other) went for a 5.5 mile run at the crack of dawn. It was our first real autumn day. Chicago's autumn is harsher than Sea Ranch's winter. It felt cold and was blustery to the point of sometimes being difficult to walk forward. Lake Michigan's big waves seemed like the Pacific ocean. I almost expected to see surfers in wet suits.

We had an excellent breakfast at Nookies in Old Town. It was so delicious we ate enough to keep us till dinner. There was 40% chance of rain today which meant that it rained 40% of the day. Umbrellas are out of the question because it is always too windy here. We postponed our architectural cruise till tomorrow and decided the Art Institute was perfect for today. We went to the new wing designed by Renzo Piano which was beautiful but in litigation as it is having major leakage problems.
Outside the Institute is the Pritzker Pavillion designed by Frank Gehry. It's an outdoor amphitheater which hosts free concerts throughout the summer season. It is a spectacular outdoor auditorium with an expansive lawn. Fabulous acoustics with expansive views of the city.

Hi Anita and Steve,
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great time in the Windy City. I lived there for 20 years and love the city.
Hugs,
