Day 12 Architecture, Art, College & Quilts

Loyola Chapel on Lake Michigan
Our morning Lake walk took us through Loyola University. This urban campus skims the shoreline and has a peaceful suburban feeling. We stopped in the chapel which is elegant and restrained. We thought about praying for less wind but we were just Jews in a Catholic house, no clout with the big guy.

Downtown Chicago View

Despite the wind we spent the early afternoon on the river architectural cruise. Chicago architecture is varied and world class. Our tour leader was a volunteer from the Chicago Architecture Foundation who talked and explained and told insider stories for 90 minutes. She was terrific and it was very interesting.

Later we took a public art self guided walking tour around the downtown. Picasso, Calder, Miro, Chagall & Nevelson all have large works out in the open for viewing. The Chagall is a 70' mosaic that shows many of his people and animal images with the sun shining over Chicago.

Ellen took me for a quick trip to Quiltopolis, a delightful little shop with fun fabrics.
The evening was a family gathering. Matthew and Marni hosted us for wine and cheese at their beautiful home and we all went out for Korean food. We are enjoying all the ethnic choices available in Chicago.
